今や世界中にファンを持つ浮世絵。特に北斎や広重の大胆な構図や図柄・影の表現を持たないことなど、その独特の色彩や構図は、ゴッホをはじめ19世紀後半のヨーロッパ美術や音楽を魅了し、多くの影響を与えたように、現代の私の心にもまた新鮮で強い影響をもたらします。
ロンドン留学時代から描き始めた「landscape シリーズ」の原点も、実は浮世絵の表現方法を取り入れたのが最初でした。ずっと頭の隅にあった制作アイデアを、“Dear Hokusai”から“Pop Hokusai”と題し、連想ゲームのように制作しました。少しの想像力を加えることで、目に映る風景は新たな魅力を持ち始めます。

Ukiyoe now has fans all over the world. In particular, the unique colors and compositions of Hokusai and Hiroshige, have a fresh and strong influence on my mind today, just as they fascinated Van Gogh and other European art and music of the late 19th century and had many other influences.
The idea of creating this work which has been in the back of my mind for a long time is a collaboration with my own landscape paintings. And I titled it 'Pop Hokusai' from 'Dear Hokusai', as if it were a game of association.
By adding a little imagination, the landscapes you see start to take on a new charm.

その土地の色、匂いなど、山や樹々がつくりだす特有の形によって風景の輪郭がつくられる。私たちを広く包み込み感情を揺らす緑の風景を、緩やかな曲線を重ねながらキャンバスの中に描き出したいと制作しました。

The outline of the landscape is created by the peculiar shapes created by the mountains and trees, including the colors and smells of the land.
I would like to depict the green landscapes that embrace us broadly and move us emotionally in the canvas, overlapping gentle curves.

Decipher 読み解く・判読する
花や、木々のカタチは美しい。目に見える形だけでなく、目に映る印象としての線や色を読み解いてキャンバスに描きうつす。
それは瞬に、筆のストロークに置き換えられ、余白の白が光になる。見えているカタチだけを追うのではなく、そこに息づいているひとつ存在が醸し出す色や温度を読み解くように塗り重ねられていく作品。

Decipher
The shapes of trees and flowers are beautiful.
The artist deciphers not only the visible shapes, but also the lines and colors as impressions reflected in the eye, and paints them onto the canvas.
In an instant, they become brushstrokes and the white of the margins becomes light.
The paintings are painted over and over, as if deciphering the colors and temperatures that emerge as something that lives and breathes there, rather than following only the shapes that can be seen.
